Fire Safety Training - Competent Fire Safety Assistant

This course is aimed at those who wish to gain knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Order (2005) to assist the Responsible Person in undertaking preventive/protective measures.


In the event of a fire, the actions of teachers/assistants/staff and other relevant persons (e.g. pupils/students) are likely to be crucial to their own safety and that of other people in the premises. All teachers/assistants/staff should receive basic fire safety induction training and attend refresher sessions at pre-determined intervals.In addition key staff should receive more detailed instruction and training such as the Responsible Person,Competent Fire Safety Assistants, those deemed asFire Wardens/Marshals and also those working in high risk areas such as kitchens and boiler rooms.

All courses are designed to develop knowledge of fire safety at work, appreciate human behaviour and responses in the event of fire situations, and provide the knowledge to enable candidates to carry out their designated duties in relation to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Our courses are designed for school staff,taking into account any findings/recommendations from the fire safety visits and fire risk assessments that all Kirklees schools have recently had undertaken and any consistent failures found in schools will be included in the sessions.

  • Fire Safety -Responsible Person
  • Fire Safety -Competent Safety Assistant
  • Fire Safety Training for Marshals/Wardens
  • Fire Safety Refresher (recommended every 3 years)

At the end of the courses candidates will gain an understanding of their legal responsibilities/duties and be able to carry out fire checks and identify hazards which might cause a fire risk or impede an evacuation. Candidates will be able to demonstrate their ability to follow correct evacuation procedures for themselves and other employees, providing assistance to those needing it as required/identified.
