School’s Out! Free Activity Packs for ”at risk” children

Kirklees Youth Alliance (KYA) is co-ordinating a two-tiered programme of free activities for school age children and young people in the 7 weeks holiday.  Please see the attached flyer.

Rather than face to face clubs taking place in community centres across the district, this year there will be an online programme of activities for all children (outlined in a separate article) and a targeted offer of activity packs delivered straight to “at risk” children and young people’s doors!

KYA has just over 5000 activity packs to distribute to children in the following categories:

• Children and young people with social care involvement
• Known to Early Support teams
• Known to Youth Offending Team
• Receiving additional support at school with emotional/wellbeing issues
• Working with local children’s charities (e.g. Northorpe Hall, Barnardo’s, Yorkshire Children Centre, Kirklees Home-Start etc.)
• Family experiencing significant financial hardship
• At risk of exploitation (including criminal and/or sexual exploitation)

Children and young people, once registered on the School’s out! App, can choose from an Art Pack, Family Cooking Pack or a KAL Activity Pack (for those that are sportier or are looking for a challenge).

The Family Cookery packs are a series of 7 and will be delivered once a week during the holidays. Each week will have a different theme and the packs will contain ingredients as well as full instructions. For those with internet access, there will be a video on www.kidzcentral.co.uk/schools-out (Primary age) and www.youthcentral.co.uk/schools-out (Secondary age) that accompanies the pack.

The Art Packs will consist of a first delivery in week one and two further deliveries at fortnightly intervals with further activities.

KAL Activity Packs will be delivered in the first week of the holidays and will contain some basic equipment and 7 sets of activity cards, intended to be opened each week as well as some basic equipment.

Schools are invited to identify an appropriate staff member to become a ‘Referrer’ on the ‘School’s Out!’ app. Your help in reaching ‘at risk’ children and young people will play a vital role in this project; meaning that KYA can reach the most vulnerable, helping them learn, achieve and stay emotionally healthy during the school holidays. The potential referrer should register here: https://kya-schools-out-2af12.web.app/registerrole . Once approved, the referrer can then “invite” families to register their child and book a pack.
